HELPING OTHERS For those looking towards a career that’s a bit different, where you will face new and challenging situations daily.
The Uniformed Public Services is a specialist sector that requires leadership, teamwork and a dynamic, adaptable personality. Students will learn a balanced mix of theory and practice whilst blending areas such as sport, fitness and adventure in with discipline and citizenship. Students will also learn how to work alongside animals within the Services, such as dog handling.
Utilising our close links with the Public Services students will have numerous opportunities to learn about careers within the Police, Fire, Ambulance and Prison Services or with the Army, Navy, Royal Marines and the RAF. Students will also get the opportunity to take part in a range of residential courses, including Army and Royal Marines, which give a real insight to working life within these sectors. Visits may include a trip to Parliament, the Tower of London and staying on board HMS Belfast as well as the opportunity to take in the sights of London. An adventure training week is also an inclusive part of the course and the option to attend warm weather training camps abroad are just a few things on offer!
We have a wide variety of sports facilities available, these are free of charge to students on the Sports courses at Newton Rigg College’s campus. The College’s facilities include a climbing wall with bouldering and roped climbing areas, high ropes course, extensive land, including large training area based in the heart of the Lake District, a gym with a range of state-of-the-art cardio and resistance machines and a wide selection of free-weights, a sports hall and outdoor sports pitches.
