You will spend time in the Animal Academy getting hands-on experience with the animals, feeding, cleaning and looking after them. We work with a wide range of animals such as: cats, dogs, alpacas, rabbits, reptiles, parrots, chickens, donkeys and sugar gliders. A range of visits are included such as Eden Animal Rescue, Pets at Home and Penny Jones Animal Hospital.

Level 1 Horse Care

This unit involves the general daily care and hygiene of horses and is suitable for beginners. There is the opportunity to get hands-on at our Equestrian Centre. We will cover assisting with grooming horses, putting on and removing horse clothing, putting on and removing tack and cleaning tack.  There will also be riding opportunities and industry visits that will enrich your learning experience.

Level 1 Introduction to Vocational Studies

This course is suitable for learners who do not want to follow a land-based route in education and with sufficient learner numbers you would be able to specialise in specific areas. This BTEC pass/merit and distinction Diploma has four compulsory units: being organised; developing a personal progression plan; working with others and researching a topic. Additional units are tailored around the interests of the students and can include Hospitality & Tourism, Health and Social Care, Sport and Public Service. Whatever your chosen subject, this innovative new course means that we can offer you core units which will develop your study skills ready for you to move onto Level 2.

Your Qualification

You will study in college for a minimum of 3 days per week. Upon completion of your programme you will be awarded a Level 1 Diploma. You will collect a portfolio of evidence during the course. Each unit will be continually assessed. Assessments will be spread out throughout the year and will be either written, oral, practical, individual or group work. You will continue to study English and maths at an appropriate level to you until you have achieved a GCSE level 4.

Employability and Personal Development

We will help you develop skills that employers are looking for and also improve your personal performance. 18+ hours of work experience in a setting that’s relevant to your qualification will add to your transferable skills.
