Skating, Sledding, Skiing and lots of Swedish Snow

Date: 26th February 2019

Everything is Possible for Newton Rigg College Outdoor Adventure, Sport and Uniformed Public Services Students

Taking full advantage of the Erasmus+ funded Everything Is Possible project, students flew from Manchester for an amazing experience of life in Sweden. As part of the visit, the students spent time in local schools sharing the similarities and differences between student life in Cumbria and student life in Sweden. Through quickly established friendships students were loaned equipment to enable them to join with local scout groups as they explored the great Swedish outdoors. Experiences included cross country skiing, ice skating and dog sledding as well as feeding freshly gathered lichen to reindeer.

During the visit the students were also invited to the home of a resident Sami family where traditional Sami sticky buns were enjoyed by all. A truly memorable visit really adding a global dimension to the exciting courses that the students are on. Let's hope they get chance to show off their snow skills back home!
