Dr Tim Whitaker heads Askham Bryan College as Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Governors of Askham Bryan College have announced that Dr Tim Whitaker has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Principal at the College. Dr Whitaker has served as Acting CEO and Principal since May 2019, after Catherine Dixon stepped down from the post last Spring.
Chair of Governors Maureen Vevers said, “I am delighted to announce that Dr Tim Whitaker has been appointed to the permanent role of Principal/CEO of Askham Bryan College. Tim has a wealth of experience in education, having worked in land-based colleges across the UK throughout his professional life and has been Acting Chief Executive/Principal at Askham Bryan College for the last six months.
"Tim is passionate about the College, creating a college environment that adds social, cultural and economic value to our students and the communities they live and work. We welcome Tim to his new role and are thrilled about the leadership he will bring to the College as it embarks on a really exciting period in its development.”
Dr Whitaker said, “It is a huge honour to have been asked to lead such an amazing organisation as Askham Bryan College. I am very excited about the College’s future and excited to lead and support a dedicated team of staff, students and stakeholders who are invested in all we have on offer here. I am very clear about our vison and strategy for the coming years; Askham Bryan has for many generations served as a centre of specialist delivery.

This is fundamentally underpinned by our brilliant teachers, fantastic resources and creative curriculum. We are about to start a very important period in our history and development. Dr Whitaker joined Askham Bryan College in November 2014 as Campus Principal at York. He has played a central role in the executive leadership team as a key driver in acquiring significant capital grant funding and moving towards degree-awarding powers for the College as well as earning an ‘Outstanding’ rating for Ofsted Care Standards in March 2019. Dr Whitaker has over 25 years’ experience in the development and delivery of land-based education. Previously he was Institutional Research Manager and Principal Lecturer at Writtle University College before working at Duchy College in Cornwall as Head of Higher and Postgraduate Education.
In addition to his work in Education, he is an experienced researcher with over 50 publications covering agriculture, equine and sports performance analysis.
