Level 2 Health, Social and Childcare
This course is designed to give you the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills that you will need to prepare for employment within a wide range of caring services. It also provides you with the opportunity to potentially progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Childrens’ Play Learning and Development. The Level 2 course takes one year to complete, you will learn about many aspects of caring for others and may have the opportunity to carry out a week's work experience within a care setting towards the end of your course. This will enable you to put the learning you have gained in the classroom into practice in a relevant workplace. You will need to undergo a police check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) and have no previous convictions.
Within this course you will study communication in health and social care, individual rights within the health and social care sectors, ensuring safe environments in health and social care, creative and therapeutic activities in health and social care and the impact of diet.
You will continue to improve your English and/or Maths skills in structured lessons alongside your course, and if you plan to progress to a Level 3 course you will need to demonstrate a satisfactory level in English and/or Maths by the end of the year.
You will learn through a mixture of classroom-based teaching and practical hands-on sessions using a variety of teaching methods. You will be encouraged and supported to work alongside peers in group activities and at times also be expected to work independently to complete assignment work that has been set.
Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade E or above including Maths and English (new GCSE grading level 3) with Science desirable. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.
Upon successful completion of this course students may progress onto a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or an equivalent childcare qualification or going into employment in playwork or onto teaching assistant qualifications.
