Animal Care Level 2
On this course students will learn about animal care and develop the skills needed to care for and handle a variety of animals.
Students will learn how to plan and monitor animal feeding as well as learn how to maintain animal health, welfare and accommodation. The course themes include planning and monitoring animal feeding, maintaining animal health, biology, welfare and accommodation, animal handling and grooming.
There are lectures, talks from guest speakers, visits, practical sessions in the Animal Unit and work related experience. Students' work is assessed continually throughout the course.
Students studying at our Newcastle Centre will have the opportunity to use the Animal Management facilities at both Newton Rigg College as well as at Askham Bryan College, York as well as working at offsite local facilities in partnership with the College.
Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade E or above including Maths and English (new GCSE grading level 3) with Science desirable. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.
Upon successful completion of this course students may progress on to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management.
