Intermediate Apprenticeship Trees and Timber
Newton Rigg College is home to The National Forestry Training Centre, which is a fantastic practical facility for our students. We have a substantial area of woodland full of different specimens of plants and trees for practical sessions and excellent forestry workshops with a range of commercial modern forestry equipment and machinery. Our tutors have extensive experience with great industry links. The forestry industry is currently expanding due to the uptake of bio fuel for industrial and domestic fuel and the outlook for the industry is buoyant . There are also good opportunities to work abroad or set up your own business once you have the necessary experience.
This Intermediate Apprenticeship consists of the Work-Based Diploma at Level 2 which is completed during block weeks in College while students are employed in the industry. Appliants will need to find a suitable work placement where they can experience a range of forestry jobs, form fencing and planting to moto-manual felling and extraction. Opportunities exist to take additional qualifications specific to the role, such as first aid and pesticide application, but additional charges may apply for these.
Upon application for this course students are required to be in employment in a relevant industry which can provide the range of experience required to complete this work-based diploma.
Upon successful completion of this course students may progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship.
