Forestry Level 3

Overview
On this course you will learn practical skills and develop the under pinning knowledge that are both necessary for employment in the sector or for moving on to a more advanced course. In year one learners may also achieve the 90 credit diploma.
Description
The course includes a wide range of modules covering, tree identification, tree planting and after care, plant, tree and soil sciences, woodland and habitat management, measure trees and carry out woodland sampling, pests and diseases, silviculture, understand legislation relating to trees in the UK, land-based machinery operations, carry out forest and woodland skills, forest machinery, business management, tree climbing, tree felling and chain saw use. Work experience is included and you will also undertake an investigative project of your own.
There are nationally set course work assessments throughout the course. You may also be given the opportunity to gain a selection of nationally recognised industry qualifications.
Entry Requirements
Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (new GCSE grading levels 4 to 9) to include any 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade D in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English and Maths at Level 2
Further Study
Higher education qualifications such as the Foundation Degree in Arboriculture could be studied on successful completion of this course.
