Introduction to Dog Grooming
Students will learn how to prepare, groom, bathe and dry dogs and the use and maintenance of grooming equipment. Equipment and personal protective equipment is supplied by the College.
This course aims to provide learners with an understanding of the principals of dog grooming and how these can be put into practice. This course will cover assessing dogs for coat type, coat grooming styling requirements, coat condition checks, demonstration of safe and effective routines for health checks, grooming, bathing and drying as well as ear and nail care.
As an introductory course, the learner will:
• Prepare dogs for styling
• Remove excess coat using electrical (clipping) and non-electrical (scissoring) equipment for styling and condition
• Trim paws and pads for styling and condition.
The course will cover as wide a range of coat types and breed as time will allow. However as an introductory course the learner must be aware there are only 60 hours taught so they will not be a professional stylist at the end, but would need to undertake significant practical hours of grooming to enhance their skills.
20 Week Evening course will start on Tuesday 3rd September 2019 until Tuesday 11th February 2020.
10 Week Day course will start on Thursday 5th September 2019 until Thursday 21st November 2019.
