How we work

Newton Rigg College through the National Centre for the Uplands is an industry leader in training, demonstration and dialogue in hill farming, conservation and land management. Our focus is to address the challenges of delivering sustainable multiple outputs from the uplands including food and breeding livestock, cultural landscapes, water, woodlands, carbon storage, access, moorland management and biodiversity. Our activities can be divided into three equally important threads;

• Supporting the education and training of our students, apprentices and the farming community.
• Working in partnership to provide an exemplar of visionary, co-operative upland management on a large scale that delivers viable and sustainable results to all upland stakeholders through applied land management.
• Providing an annual conference to allow open discussion on the many different and sometimes conflicting elements which have an interest in the uplands of the United Kingdom.
