Welcome to Newton Rigg College - We’re proud to be part of Askham Bryan College the fastest growing land based college in the country, thanks to our range of existing courses, great teaching and fantastic facilities.
Newton Rigg became part of the Askham Bryan family in August 2011 and since then we have been working hard to build new facilities and widen the range of courses we offer to meet the further education needs of Cumbria and the North West. Although agriculture and land based education are at the heart of Newton Rigg, we also offer a wide range of more general further education courses to meet the needs of local young people. We have a huge range of courses from foundation level to higher education, with part time, full time or apprenticeship routes.
Since 1896, Newton Rigg has been meeting the education and training needs of rural Cumbria. We are privileged to take on that baton to ensure that the students who graduate from our college are ‘work ready’, not only with a great range of qualifications, but with a broad knowledge of their industry and the skills and experience required to move into employment with confidence. We work closely with industry to help shape the most appropriate courses and facilities as we strive to ensure that we can provide our students with the best possible chance of employment or progression onto further courses of study.
We employ great staff at Newton Rigg, all of which have a strong grounding in the industries related to the subjects that they teach. Our staff have very high expectations of each of our students and will do all they can to ensure we help you to meet your full potential. Alongside our teaching staff we have a wide range of support staff who are dedicated to help students overcome barriers to successfully completing their course whilst thoroughly enjoying their time at college.
Our residential facilities mean that students from across the UK and beyond can access high quality education at Newton Rigg, whilst adding to the diversity of the college community. Alongside the teaching and learning elements of college life, we also really value the importance of students having fun. Our excellent sports facilities, study tours, social events and students union all add to the wider experience of college where our students can develop as individuals within a supportive college environment.
We continue to invest in significant resource and facilities improvements at Newton Rigg to ensure our students can study in high quality learning environments, whether that be the Animal Academy, the Learning Resource Centre or our brand new Dairy Unit. We are fortunate to be based in a wonderful part of the country. We maximise this unique location by utilising our extensive campus at Penrith and Hill Farm at Mungrisdale for our student groups in their practical studies, outdoor pursuits and social activities.
Newton Rigg is a friendly college, with high expectations of every one of its students, providing a high quality and unique learning experience in the beautiful surroundings of Cumbria and the Lake District National Park.
