Types of Accommodation
At Newton Rigg College we can accommodate 198 students on campus in various types of accommodation. Students under the age of 18 are accommodated in same gender halls of residence separate from the over 18 year old students who also live on the campus.
120 rooms are en suite and are arranged in groups of 8 students with a shared kitchen area.
78 rooms are in buildings which can accommodate between 8 and 25 students in traditional hostel-style accommodation.
Each single bedroom is fully furnished with a single bed, bedside cabinet, wardrobe, desk, small chest of drawers, wall shelves, desk chair, litter bin and poster board.
All residences with standard bedrooms are heated by electric storage heaters or oil powered central heating. En suite rooms are heated from the Biomass boiler. Charges for reasonable electricity usage are included in the rent. Heating and hot water systems operate in the mornings and evenings, but not 24 hours a day.
Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, provided by the College, the cost of which is included in the rent.
There is a coin-operated laundry on campus for students' use.
Domestic Services Staff clean the communal areas daily and bedrooms in all residences occupied by under 18 year olds at least once a week. Students are responsible for doing their own washing up. Students over the age of 18 do not have their bedrooms cleaned and are expected to keep them in a clean and tidy condition.
The majority of students go home at the weekends but some are required to stay to fulfil aspects of their course or because it’s too far to go home each weekend. If students wish to stay who are under 18 we ask that parental permission is given and they let us know if they are going to stay for the weekends - this needs to be submitted to our Student services team by email.
