Students’ Receive Scholarship Awards
Date: 2nd March 2017
The college's strong links with AW Jenkinson Forest Products continues as students recently enjoyed a tour of the company's main processing site in Clifton, Penrith. The Level 3 forestry students saw first hand how roundwood, bark and woodchips are processed into products as varied as animal bedding and biomass feedstocks.
In addition, four students were presented with awards as part of the company's long standing partnership with the college. The four are working toward their Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forestry and submitted essays exploring changes affecting the forestry industry over the next 20 years. Samuel Rowley, Daniel Edgecombe, Thomas Mason and Christopher Medway covered a range of topics from flood mitigation to tree health to renewal heat and power. They received sponsorship vouchers and certificates from Simon Bullock of AW Jenkinson.
Richard Palmer, Commercial Director said: “We believe these awards are vital in encouraging young people and new starters across all sectors of the industry and we look forward to following the progress of all the students during their time at Newton Rigg.”
