Business and Learning Futures in Eden Event

Attend the event to connect your business with learning and development opportunities in Eden.
Representatives from award winning local businesses are the keynote speakers at this free event, which aims to help Eden businesses access the training; funding and support services they need to meet the economic challenges of
the next decade.
Sarah Dunning of Westmorland Ltd and David Brass of The Lakes Free Range Egg Company, are just two of the successful business people who are sharing their skills and experiences at the event alongside representatives from councils, education providers, the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Penrith Chamber of Trade.
The main aims of event are:
- To take views about what employers want from providers of education and business support
- Provide networking opportunities
- Help employers learn about grant aid and other initiatives to support business growth, including:
- The Rural Growth Network Pilots - Support for Cumbrian businesses through growth hubs, web portals and associated services
- Eden Apprenticeship Scheme - A wage subsidy of up to £2,000 for new apprenticeship
- Cumbria LEP’s Small Business Development Loan
- £1.4b Regional Growth Fund – A discretionary fund to stimulate enterprise by support projects with significant potential for creating long-term private sector economic growth

Sarah will be speaking about her business and the opportunities and challenges we face in developing skills

Chairman - Eden Tourism Network
Jim Walker, the Chief Executive of Ullswater Steamers will talk about his role as Chairman of the Eden Tourism Network and how the organisation provides support to tourism businesses.

Chief Executive - The Lakes Free Range Egg Company
David will talk about working with the public sector to draw down government funding and illustrate some tips about how to be clear about your business plans and persevere in the face of some demanding conditions. David and his wife Helen set up the company in 1997. It focuses on supplying free range and organic eggs, packed to the highest national standards whilst adhering to leading welfare, ethical and environmental standards. They are a supplier to many key retailers. David is recognised as an innovator in free-range egg production. He has recently introduced car robot technology to the company’s packing station - which is the most advanced, efficient building design system of any UK egg packer. The company has developed their product range, redesigning their ‘Lakes’ brand and developing Laid With Love ‘packaged in pink’ – which donates money to cancer research.
