Study, Horse Management (BTEC National Diploma), Horse Care (BTEC First Diploma), Equine Apprenticeship, or a Part Time Horse Course at Newton Rigg Equine Centre, Penrith.

Newton Rigg has a course to suit each individual.

Horse Management (BTEC National Diploma)

Two years full-time
Entry Requirements:
Standard requirements are a First Diploma at Merit, an intermediate GNVQ in a similar vocational area or four GCSE passes at grade C and above.  There may be specific entry requirements for these courses; this will be discussed at interview.

Horse Care (BTEC First Diploma)

One year full-time
Entry Requirements:
We look for four GCSEs at grade D/E; you must be enthusiastic and eager to learn. If you are intending to go onto a Level 3 course (such as a BTEC National Diploma) we will be looking for evidence of qualifications such as foundation GNVQs, GCSEs at grades D/E and relevant work experience.

Equine Apprenticeship

Two years full-time
Entry Requirements:
Apprenticeships are available to anyone between 16 and 25 who has a full time job*.  You can enrol at any time of year.   You must attend an interview before a place is offered to you.

* If you are under 25 and hold a degree or over 25 there are still opportunities to enrol on an NVQ programme but you may have to make a contribution towards the fees. Contact  the Student Recruitment office for more information.
