Division of Land and Animal Management

Land and Animal Management is one of the College's largest departments; and as such it continues the long and honourable history of land based subject study and skills training at the Newton Rigg campus.

As well as traditional subjects like Agriculture and Horticulture, Newton Rigg College also includes Animal Care, Equine, as well as Forestry and Woodland Management sections. Newton Rigg College also houses the Northern School of Game and Wildlife with a national reputation for gamekeeping and related courses.

Nearly all subjects have a wide range of levels and types of study. Whether it is a work based Apprenticeship in Agriculture, a part time course in professional Garden Design or a full time campus based National Diploma in Countryside Management as a specialist alternative to ‘A’ levels – the  Land and Animal Management Department can offer specific vocational training or a ‘tailor made’ progression route which suits you.

Students have fully integrated access to Newton Rigg Colleges own two upland and lowland working farms and extensive woodlands. These also involve successful farm stewardship environmental schemes, alternative energy crop projects and professional game shoot and deer management. So along with a modern ‘Animal Academy’, dedicated equine facilities and superb gardens on the campus itself, LAM students and their dedicated specialist teaching staff have all the practical resources required to maintain their high standards.
