Countryside and the Environment

Countryside and Environment, outdoor classroom encompasses the whole of Cumbria and beyond!

Countryside and Environment study the land that farmers traditionally don’t manage including Wetland areas, Scrub, Heathland, Woodlands and Coastal environments. Learners are involved with habitat creation, learn estate skills and investigate the land based industries. Some learners study game keeping units and pest and predator management.

Learners get out there - onto the Lake District National park, the Moors, into the Dales, get their feet wet in wetland and coastal areas. They undertake surveys, help create habitats, understand how agriculture operates and the pressures on it both financially and environmentally.
