Lantra Awards Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting

Description

This course is suitable for individuals who would be classed as occasional operators and who intend to use the chainsaw for business, domestic or leisure activities but who do not intend to work in forestry or arboriculture or work on Forestry Commission land.

Chainsaws are very versatile tools with a variety of uses but they are also potentially dangerous.  Serious accidents can and do occur without proper training or because operators have not kept their skills up to date.
Training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use.  Anyone working in or on trees is expected to hold a recognized certificate of competence. If you are self-employed, the regulations still apply.

This course covers the following:

  • Operational maintenance
  • Safety Procedures
  • Cross cutting techniques
