Higher Apprenticeship in Agricultural Business Management

Overview

This programme provides people already working in agriculture involved in business decision making or at a junior management level with the skills and competence to take on more of a managerial role within the business. At York a range of pathways including livestock, crops or mixed farming are available to study, at Newton Rigg pathways in both lowlands or uplands farming are available to study.

Description

The programme includes general business skills such as financial skills, staff and resource planning and enterprise-specific skills such as fertiliser planning, monitoring and evaluating crop management (York only) in addition to planning and evaluating livestock breeding and feeding programmes. All of the units require the learner to evidence and demonstrate their skills for the units selected in their own workplace.

Study includes a Level 4 Diploma in Workbased Agricultural Business Management, Level 4 Certificate in Project Management for Land-Based Industries and Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English.

This course is studied part-time and takes 24-30 months and learners will follow a route that is appropriate to their vocational situation. This programme is studied on a combination of day-release and block-release from November to May.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have a Level 3 qualification in Agriculture and GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or equivalent qualifications, however people who have significant UK agriculture industry experience (3-5 years) may also be suitable. In all cases learners must be employed within suitable agricultural businesses and be involved in decision making.

Further Study

You could go onto study a Foundation Degree and Top Up Degree in a related subject.
