City & Guilds NPTC Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm

Description

This course teaches you to carry out Maintenance of Chainsaw and Cutting System and be able to fell and process trees up to 380mm. Chainsaws are very versatile tools with a variety of uses but they are also potentially dangerous. Serious accidents can and do occur without proper training or because operators have not kept their skills up to date. The forestry and arboricultural industries recognise that good health and safely practice is vital for operators and business.

The qualification comprises one mandatory unit and candidates must successfully achieve all assessments activities within this unit to complete the qualification.

These are:

  • Fell and process trees using a chainsaw
  • Be able to work safely
  • Be able to fell and process trees up to 380mm
  • Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  • Know how to remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw
  • Know how to take down hung-up trees

Following their training, candidates will undertake an independent assessment for this unit which will be a mixture of practical and verbal questioning.

Entry Requirements

The City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm (previously called CS31) is designed for those candidates who have already achieved the City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cut (previously called CS30) and who want to progress on to felling trees.

Further Study

Following the successful completion of this qualification, candidates can progress on to further City & Guilds NPTC Chainsaw related qualifications as appropriate to their work including City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Award in Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm (previously called CS32).
