Successful Learning at Newton Rigg

Are you thinking of starting an FE course and wondering how you will manage the workload, or the writing of assignments?

Or are you concerned that your learning need or disability will make it more difficult for you?

Don’t worry, we provide services which can enable you to be a successful learner.

At Newton Rigg we have a dedicated, friendly and professional Additional Learning Needs Team of specialist Skills Development Tutors (SDT), Student Learning Assistants (SLA) and others to enable you to develop effective independent learning strategies.

Here are some of the services we can provide:

Extra staff in class who will make notes, make sure you understand tasks, meet deadlines and enable you to develop independent learning skills.
1:1 appointments with our friendly tutors, including, if you are dyslexic, some tips to enable you to improve your assignments.
Weekly group academic skills sessions in our accessible Academic Skills Centre (ASC) with a tutor working with you.
Informal drop-in sessions in ASC on Wednesday afternoons when you can work on your assignments with encouragement from our tutors.
An Independent Living Assistant (ILA) to make your residential experience fun and exciting, enabling you to make friends and build your confidence.
If you need an up-to-date assessment by a qualified Educational Psychologist, we will arrange this for you and guide you through the process.

Newton Rigg Dressage Success - On 12th February Newton Rigg held a very successful dressage competition

Juvenile Mute Swan Rescue - The Level 1 and Level 2 Animal Care learners at Newton Rigg have recently been involved in rescuing a juvenile mute swan found on wetland at Sewborwens Farm.
